Data sources

Everything on the map is traceable to the publishers below. The monitor shows model output and volunteered geographic data — it carries no official flood warning data. For official advisories, always consult PAGASA.

Open-Meteo Forecast API

Best-match numerical weather-model output from national weather services. Drives the model rainfall, temperature, wind, and humidity readings.

DOST-PAGASA Automated Rain Gauges

Station-specific hourly rain-gauge observations published by PAGASA. Shown as the official PAGASA rain-gauge observation.

Philippine Statistics Authority PSGC

Official names and codes for Albay's cities, municipalities, and barangays.

NASA GPM IMERG via GIBS

Satellite-estimated surface precipitation rate from the Global Precipitation Measurement mission, published half-hourly with roughly 4 hours of latency. Drawn on the map as the “Satellite rain” overlay for comparison against the modeled rainfall and PAGASA gauge readings.

NASA MODIS Flood Detection via GIBS

Near-real-time surface water and flood detection (MCDWD) from the Terra and Aqua satellites, composited over the past 3 days at 250 m resolution. Drawn on the map as the “Satellite flood extent” overlay to corroborate community flood reports. Optical sensors cannot see through clouds, so heavy overcast can hide flooding.

NASA SRTM via Terrain Tiles on AWS Open Data

Global elevation rasters derived primarily from the NASA Shuttle Radar Topography Mission, used to shade low-lying flood-susceptible ground. Drawn on the map as the “Low-lying terrain” overlay; elevation is decoded from terrarium-encoded tiles directly on the GPU. Elevation alone is an approximation of flood susceptibility — drainage and local defenses are not modeled.
